A Curry County inmate was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center on Friday after part of his ear was bitten off during a fight over an MP3 player.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the jail around 7 p.m. Friday for a report of an inmate bitten during a fight, records show.
The fight stemmed from an argument between two male inmates that began earlier in the day over the “ownership and possession” of an MP3 player and escalated into a physical fight, Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller said.
Waller said the fight ended when one of the inmates bit off a portion of the other’s ear.
Charges are pending against both inmates, he said.
Jail staff has previously said inmates can have approved MP3 players brought in by their families.
